Barbecue Boys Club

COMPLETED PROJECT / SHORT FILM

Genres:  Buddy-Ensemble Comedy / Suburban Satire

Themes:  Toxic Masculinity / Control vs. Chaos

Logline:   Four overly serious men form a backyard barbecue club to escape adulthood, only to discover the real competition isn’t cooking meat, it’s confronting friendship, insecurity, and the fragile rules of masculinity they’ve quietly agreed to follow.

Tagline: “When man meets meat, it must be beat.”

Summary:

Barbeque Boys Club is a fast, character-driven comedy about male bonding, competitive delusion, and the sacred art of overreacting to smoked meat.

What starts as a casual get-together becomes an officially unofficial institution complete with bylaws, judging criteria, and ceremonial tasting rituals. Each member treats grilling like a televised championship event, complete with commentary, strategy, and barely concealed jealousy.

As the competition escalates, so do the insecurities. Petty disputes over seasoning escalate into existential crises. Personal victories become inflated triumphs. Minor slights feel like betrayals worthy of exile from the patio.

Blending deadpan performances with escalating absurdity, Barbeque Boys Club skewers performative masculinity and the elaborate traditions people invent to avoid saying what they actually feel.

Based on an original concept by Natalie Ruh.
